It turns out that Twister is quite the subversive movie. The plot pivots on a conflict between pure science and capitalistic exploit. Early in the script, Bill (Bill Paxton) explains to his fiancée (Jami Gertz):
We all started out working in the same lab, but Jonas went out and got some corporate sponsors. He's in it for the money, not the science. (Clip here.)So, science=good; money=bad.
